These Terms and Conditions explain the rules for using our website and booking tuition services through Surrey Tutors. By using this website, making an enquiry, booking a lesson, or purchasing tuition services, you agree to these Terms and Conditions.
If you do not agree with these terms, please do not use our website or services.
1. About Surrey Tutors
Surrey Tutors provides private tuition services for students across Surrey and surrounding areas. We offer academic support across subjects and education levels, including but not limited to maths, English, science, 11+, GCSE and A-Level tuition.
Tuition may be provided online, in person, or through another agreed format depending on tutor availability, student requirements and location.
2. Our Services
Our services may include:
- One-to-one private tuition
- Online tuition
- In-person tuition where available
- 11+ preparation
- GCSE tuition
- A-Level tuition
- Subject-specific academic support
- Exam preparation and revision support
- Homework and confidence-building support
We aim to provide professional, structured and supportive tuition tailored to each student’s needs. However, tuition results depend on several factors, including student attendance, effort, prior knowledge, revision, parental support and exam performance.
We do not guarantee specific grades, exam results, school placements or academic outcomes.
3. Enquiries and Bookings
When you contact Surrey Tutors, we may ask for information about the student, including their year group, subject needs, current ability, exam goals, location, availability and preferred lesson format.
A tuition arrangement is only confirmed once:
- lesson details have been agreed;
- availability has been confirmed;
- payment terms have been accepted; and
- any required payment has been received.
We reserve the right to decline a booking if we are unable to provide a suitable tutor, if availability is limited, or if we consider the request unsuitable.
4. Tuition Fees and Payment
Tuition fees will be confirmed before lessons begin. Fees may vary depending on the subject, level, tutor, lesson length, package type and whether lessons are online or in person.
Payment may be required in advance, per lesson, weekly, monthly or as part of a tuition package, depending on the arrangement agreed.
Unless agreed otherwise, payment must be made before the lesson or tuition package begins.
If payment is not received on time, Surrey Tutors may pause or cancel lessons until the outstanding balance has been paid.
5. Lesson Cancellations and Rescheduling
We understand that students may sometimes need to cancel or reschedule lessons.
Unless otherwise agreed in writing, we require at least 24 hours’ notice to cancel or reschedule a lesson.
If less than 24 hours’ notice is given, the lesson may be charged in full.
If a student does not attend a scheduled lesson without notice, the lesson may be treated as completed and charged in full.
Where a tutor needs to cancel or rearrange a lesson, we will aim to provide as much notice as possible and offer a suitable replacement lesson time.
6. Late Arrival and Missed Lessons
Students are expected to attend lessons on time.
If a student arrives late, the lesson will usually still end at the scheduled time unless the tutor agrees otherwise.
If a student is more than 15 minutes late without communication, the lesson may be treated as missed and charged in full.
For online lessons, students are responsible for ensuring they have a suitable internet connection, device, microphone, camera where required, and access to the agreed lesson platform.
7. Online Tuition
Online lessons may take place through Zoom, Google Meet, Microsoft Teams or another agreed platform.
Parents/students are responsible for ensuring the student has:
- a stable internet connection;
- a working device;
- any required login or meeting link;
- a quiet and suitable learning environment;
- any materials required for the lesson.
Surrey Tutors is not responsible for lesson disruption caused by poor internet connection, device problems, power cuts, platform issues or technical problems outside our control.
Where possible, tutors may attempt to continue or reschedule the lesson, but this is not guaranteed.
8. In-Person Tuition
Where in-person tuition is agreed, a suitable and safe learning environment must be provided.
A responsible adult should be present or available where lessons involve younger students or take place in a private home.
Surrey Tutors and its tutors reserve the right to refuse or end an in-person lesson if the environment is unsafe, inappropriate, disruptive or unsuitable for tuition.
Travel availability and travel fees may vary depending on location.
9. Safeguarding and Student Welfare
Surrey Tutors takes student welfare seriously. We expect all communication and lessons to remain professional, respectful and appropriate.
Parents/guardians must provide accurate information about any relevant learning needs, medical needs, safeguarding concerns or circumstances that may affect tuition.
Tutors must not be asked to provide childcare, medical supervision or services outside the scope of academic tuition.
If a tutor or member of Surrey Tutors has a serious concern about a student’s welfare, we may take appropriate action in line with safeguarding responsibilities, which may include contacting a parent/guardian or relevant authority where necessary.
10. Parent and Student Responsibilities
Parents/students agree to:
- provide accurate information when making an enquiry;
- attend lessons on time;
- communicate any changes or concerns promptly;
- provide required learning materials where requested;
- ensure online lesson access is ready before the lesson starts;
- treat tutors respectfully;
- pay fees on time;
- follow agreed cancellation and rescheduling terms.
Surrey Tutors reserves the right to end tuition arrangements where behaviour is inappropriate, payments are repeatedly late, lessons are repeatedly missed, or communication becomes unreasonable or abusive.
11. Tutor Allocation
We aim to match students with a suitable tutor based on subject, level, availability, learning needs and location.
Where necessary, Surrey Tutors may change the tutor assigned to a student due to availability, scheduling, illness, performance, suitability or other operational reasons.
If a tutor becomes unavailable, we will aim to offer a suitable replacement where possible.
12. Educational Outcomes
Surrey Tutors aims to help students improve confidence, knowledge, skills and exam preparation.
However, we cannot guarantee:
- specific grades;
- exam results;
- school offers;
- scholarship outcomes;
- university places;
- progress within a specific timeframe.
Student progress depends on attendance, effort, consistency, independent study, school support, parental support and individual circumstances.
13. Refunds
Refund eligibility depends on the tuition arrangement, package type and circumstances.
Refunds may not be available for:
- lessons already delivered;
- missed lessons without required notice;
- late cancellations;
- unused package lessons where the agreed notice period has not been followed;
- services already started with the customer’s agreement.
Where a refund is approved, it will usually be returned using the original payment method.
If a customer purchases tuition online, consumer cancellation rights may apply. Under UK distance selling rules, consumers are generally given a 14-day cancellation period for services purchased online, but if the customer asks for the service to begin during that period, they may be charged for services already provided. UK government guidance also states that customers must be told about cancellation rights for online and distance selling.
